85 Days. I am a huge tomato sauce maker and I love this tomato! It makes the most delicious deep brown, sweet sauce that is perfect on spaghetti. 3 to 4inch long, deep brown tomatoes, are late to ripen and early to the sauce-pan. They have few seeds and sweet flesh. Note: I have noticed that a few do get cracks, but it really doesn’t matter because sauce is what I am after. They all go right in da pan!

Do they have problems with splitting? Yes
Did I have a lot of blossom end rot with these. Yep
Do they take a long time to ripen? Seemed like forever
Will I grow them again? Heck ya!
Why? Because despite the issues they are a damned good tomato! Flavor and texture-wise they are on par with any of the blacks and they also make a mean sauce! Plants are healthy and heavy producers. Some of the fruits were really large for a sauce tomato, 12-14 oz or so. While it did stall out for a couple weeks during a heat wave it came back in full force. Splitting was pretty much irrelevant because it was mostly on the top portion that you cut off anyway and the blossom end rot only affected the very end, just making a dry scar similar to cat facing. I think the BER was likely weather/climate or location related anyway. The only real disappointment I had with this variety was that there were still tons of green fruits left on the vine when my season ended. Another few weeks and I would have had a bumper crop! Can’t wait to grow these next year!
